Major Consensus Statements & Guidelines

EAONO is globally recognized for developing evidence-based standards that unify clinical practices worldwide. Key milestones include:

  1. Middle Ear Cholesteatoma (EAONO/JOS Joint Consensus): In 2016, in collaboration with the Japanese Otological Society (JOS), EAONO established the definitive international classification and staging system for middle ear cholesteatoma using the STAM framework.

PMID: 28059056.
  2. Vestibular Schwannoma: EAONO has published influential position statements on the diagnosis and management of vestibular schwannoma, defining critical protocols for MRI screening and tumor growth monitoring.
  3. Ménière’s Disease: In 2018, the Academy led the development of European Guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of Ménière’s disease, providing a structured approach to both medical and surgical interventions.
  4. International Collaboration: We work closely with organizations like the Barany Society and the International Federation of Oto-Rhino-Laryngological Societies (IFOS) to ensure our guidelines reflect a global perspective.
