Temporal bone courses. EAONP training program

Objective

To promote training in the surgical practice of Otology through practical courses carried out in a network of Temporal Bone Laboratories in Europe.

Recipients

Valid for all ENT specialists, with special priority for those who are in the last year of residency or first 3 years of specialty. A certificate from your center accrediting this condition must be provided.

Program

Overview

Each of the practical courses in temporal bone laboratories will address a specific topic of Otology. These are not general courses of temporal bone dissection. Their objective is to deepen the bases and practical performance of certain surgical techniques in Otology.

The selected teachers have a high specialization in the subject of each course.

General courses content

The course schedule is as follows:

  • Implantable hearing systems: Cochlear implant, Bone Conduction Implants, Active Middle Ear Implants. Temporal Bone Laboratory of the University of Navarra Clinic, Pamplona, Spain and in the Temporal Bone Laboratory of Fundación Jimenez Díaz, Madrid, Spain, to alternate years.   • Lateral skull base surgery. Temporal Bone Laboratory of Rigshospitalet, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and Audiology. Copenhagen, Denmark. Professors: Per Caye Thomasen, Dan Jiang
  • Chronic Middle Ear Surgery (Tympanoplasties and Cholesteatoma surgery). Temporal Bone Laboratory of European Institute for ORL-HNS. St Augustinus Antwerpen. Belgium. Professors: Andrzej Zarowsky, Erwin Offeciers
  • Stapes surgery. Prof. Szymanski, Prof. Mierzwinski, Prof. Fishman, Prof. Zarowsky in Warsaw

Facilities

The laboratories will have individual workstations equipped with microscopes, video cameras and screens, suction-irrigation system, surgical instruments, temporal bones or cadaver heads, prostheses and other disposable materials.

Prior to the courses, registered attendees will receive a list of bibliographic references that are recommended to read before attending the course.

Inscriptions

The courses will be priced at 1000–2000 €. Discount members EAONO 120 €

Applications will be forwarded to the Secretary General of EAONO (mmanrique@unav.es), who in turn will forward the applications to the Executive Committee, which will rule on their approval or refusal. The decision will be made within a period of less than one month from the receipt of the application.

  • Observations

Evaluation

Once the stay in one of the centers has been completed, the rotator must publish the result of their experience on the EAONO website.

Dissemination

This program will be disseminated in the Journal International Advanced Otology (JIAO), EAONO website, social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, others), Congresses and meetings (preparation of a brochure).
